gruese After re-watching some of the recent eagles games, I predict a lot of cutback running (duh!) and passes over the middle. Vick very rarely throws to the sideline, and he has some real speedy weapons in Jackson and Maclin that can go on crosses. Bears might want to take a page out of that playbook.

gruese If Ponder starts in the second game vs. Minnesota, the Bears might be in trouble. He looked quick and had great poise. They did stop Peterson though, which was great to see.
10/17/2011 - 7:44am Respond Show all 4 comments Not a chance. That viking defense looked terrible and Ponder couldn't even score any points us. 10/17/2011 - 2:09pm Well, the Vikings offense was really predictable in the 4th quarter, but the Bears still couldn't put a hand on Ponder. And it wasn't because of the blocking of the Vikings o-line. But we'll see. 10/17/2011 - 2:28pm Ponder ran half the time lol and also take into account it was garbage time 10/18/2011 - 1:29pm I think a lot of it had to do with them never seeing Ponder before and therefore not game planning for him, believe me if he gets to start for the Vikes now there will be plenty of film on him before we play them again and the defense will better know his quirks and be ready for him. 10/18/2011 - 5:37pm |

gruese To be honest, the Bears are about where I expected them to be at this point of the season. (Didn't expect the Lions to be 5-0, but that's another story). They were just too many unanswered questions coming into the year, like the O-line, Forte's & Briggs' contracts, the safeties situation ...
10/11/2011 - 8:06am Respond (cont'd) And history tells us that teams with a lot of questions will usually be mediocre at best. The Bears are not the worst, but far from the best in terms of talent - and they do not have the coaching to make up for it. I do not disagree with the defensive approach of keeping everything in front of you and playing zone coverage, but to be able to do that, you need to prevent big plays - and the Bears aren't doing that. Offensively, it really boils down to the offense line and the receivers. Both positions are really weak, and that problem is exacerbated by injuries. In my estimation, the Bears will split the W-L during the rest of their season to finish around .500, maybe 8-8 or 7-9. Again, this should not come as a big surprise and while I am disappointed like every other Bears fan, you have to keep things in perspective. It's going to get interesting once the season ends, because just firing Angelo, Lovie and Martz will not solve anything. You have to get the right people and rebuild to keep up with two great young contenders in Green Bay and Detroit. 10/11/2011 - 8:17am Agree but last night what i saw was not Martz fault, he was trying to be balanced and he did call good plays. We just dont have the talent besides Cutler/Forte to run the system. Kellen Davis can score in the end zone but it irks me when he does not know what he is doing (the one play where "everyone" had to tell him which spot to be in) To be honest i am getting really tired of the cover-2... 10/11/2011 - 9:22am |
